An Unforgettable Reunion

This past weekend at The D2 Summit we got to share in a moment that was so special. This may be one of my most favorite experiences I've ever been blessed enough to be part of. Master Sergeant Bruce Miller has been serving our country overseas in the United States Marine Corps, and after almost 4 years of separation, was reunited with his daughters in person on the floor of the D2 Summit following an incredible zero deduction routine by his daughter Jayden's team. As they joyously embraced after so long apart, there was not a dry eye in the house!
As a military wife myself, our household have been through several deployments, TDYs and trainings that have separated our family. If you have never had to give up a loved one as they selflessly sacrifice for military service, you will never fully understand how difficult it is. You can empathize, yes.. but you cannot grasp how hard it is (on both ends).
For our men and women in uniform, missing pivotal moments big and small in the life of your child is a sacrifice that no parent should have to make. Yet, our service men and women do it every day without hesitation. Missing first steps, first words, missing out on tucking their kids into bed at night or being the one who gets to wipe their tears away when they get their heart broken for the first time. Those moments, big and small, are all BIG moments that our service members willingly miss as they put country before self.
For our military families, it's so difficult to give up these moments with our loved ones for the greater good. It can be incredibly lonely, scary and confusing for military kids. There's a mixture of pride for their call to service and grief for the moments you will never get back. You must "hold down the fort" back at home so that they can stay focused on the mission. It's HARD- you have to handle everything yourself and typically don't want to burden your service member with the obstacles of everyday life so that they can stay focused, on mission and safe. On the behalf of the families it's also an incredible act of service to give up someone you love in support of the mission.
MSgt Miller thank you for your service. God Bless you and your family for being the few, the proud, the brave who answer the call. Your service and sacrifice remind us all of the true meaning of courage, commitment, and love. Thank you to mom Katelynn for your service in raising your beautiful daughters while their Dad serves- for keeping them strong and supported while they give up such a big piece of their heart. God Bless America!
Thank you to Varsity All Star for making this moment so incredibly special for this family and our program. This was a life moment we’ll never forget and we are so grateful that we had the honor to be part of it!
